Hello everyone, Dr. Ghossein skg with you again on Canadian foreign affairs.
In blog 4 I left you with the China fiasco, today I will offer my observations on the Cuba fiasco and others.
When our prime minister was asked about Fidel Castro, he replied and I quote "Fidel Castro larger than life". what a way to describe a man who kept his people under his boots for decades, living in misery, poverty and still in the 19th, century. Such compliment about Castro should give our prime minister some clout with the regime in Cuba, clout to help a Quebec man being railroaded in the Cuban justice system, which by the way is entirely controlled by the regime. Clout to protect our foreign mission in Cuba from being attacked by what is called the Havana Syndrome which was the base for a lawsuit filed on behalf of the employees of the Canadian embassy in Cuba against the Canadian government alleging, neglect and misleading information .
I am not forgetting the report of our auditor general, stating the lack of adequate security for many of our foreign missions.
On to the fiasco of trade negotiations with the US. The president of the United States of America Donald J. Trump said and I quote "We do not like their negotiator".
The United States of America, the leader of super powers by far, our best friend, our neighbour, our family, our life line, I hope our government does not screw that up, just to exercise its superficial ideology and its futile ways of seeing the world.
As Canadians, sentiments aside, be pragmatic for a second and consider an America totally unhappy with our government's ways of undermining the policies of the US. around every corner, think what will happen then, and don't try to pin anything on president Trump, for with or without him America is there. think if Russia exerts pressure on our northern and western borders, because we are playing with its western front, do you thing the reject hornet jet fighters will protect us.

Another fiasco to talk about is, the fixation of our prime minister on obtaining a seat on the United Nations Security Council.
Fixation I say because of the way he is going about it, acquiescing to that organisation and its declarations, compacts and agreements, even if they were not in the interest of Canada. Spending millions of taxpayers money outside the country etc..
Perhaps our prime minister and his lieutenant our minister of foreign affairs should tell us about that seat, its powers and its benefits for Canada. They will not even though there are no attorney client privileges involved here, well allow me then;
As most of you know the United Nations Security Council is composed of 15 members, divided into two levels, the first is; the super powers or 5 permanent members agreed upon since the beginning, permanent, and they have the Veto right,
The second level is made out of 10 countries, elected by the General Assembly of the UN, for a term of two years. These 10 countries have no veto powers, that fact make them a chair and a person sitting in it like a lifeless picture, for all or any decision taken by the General Assembly can be vetoed by one permanent  member rendering it nil or non binding. So why the fixation on obtaining that seat.
Is it for image and prestige? or is it to allow someone to wear an Armani sute, stand before world representatives, depicting the showmanship of a show host who has nothing to offer but lip service, and hot air ? which by the way is bad for the environment.
Many other complex situations in the making, our relations with Iran, Turkey vie a vie the Kurds.
Pacific trade, Brexit versus the rest of Europe. etc.etc.etc.
I worry, about the ability of our present government to handle all and bring benefits to Canada, just based on all the above observations, the resume of our present government lack the required ingredients for success.
In my next blog 6, I would like to introduce to you the hot spots around the world, which require the attention of our present government. I say our present government because of their leading ideology on how they view the world. skg.
