I finished my previous blog 2 with the fiasco our minister of foreign affairs have created with Russia, I called the blog Wake up Canada, today the blog is under a new domain called; Canada is awake.
Fantastic that some are up and reading my observations.
On I go to another fiasco created by the present Canadian government and its minister of foreign affairs, I am talking about Saudi Arabia and the famous tweet by our present minister of foreign affairs, a tweet that was taken by the Saudi government as an insult to the kingdom, a tweet that defied all conventional and written rules of diplomacy and international relations.
I tell you again that, a touch of background knowledge would have prevented the minister from taking to twitter and speaking the way she did.
To those who do not know, especially our minister of foreign affairs I say learn this about Saudi Arabia:
1- A stable kingdom, in a region of instability. A smart Canadian minister of foreign affairs should not meddle and create destabilising conditions which would have devastating ramifications for dozens of countries and millions of people in the region and around the world.
2- An ancient land with deep roots going back thousands of years, back to the beginning of biblical and known human history. It is conservative, and its conservatism stems for a well defined culture based on religious beliefs, hence an unconditional adoption and faithful life with a religion called Islam, which is based on two fundamental facts; a holly book called Qor'an, and the the doctrines of the founder of Islam (Discourses) The Prophet Mohammad "salla llah alayh wa sallam".
3- Saudi Arabia is a power broker in the region, keeping other brokers from spreading their wings of hegemony to control the region.
4- Saudi Arabia is a regional power in a region dealing with other regional powers, such as Turkey, Iran, and other countries aspiring to become regional powers
5 - A Kingdom that is a holly ground for Muslims around the world, the king of Saudi Arabia is the servant of the two most sacred shrines in Islam.
6 - The generosity of Saudi Arabia is unparallelled around the world, generosity that keeps many nations in the region alive with dignity and pride, generosity that keeps millions of Saudi nationals working, generosity that allows millions from every nation around the planet to work, countries that include Canada, the US., you name it, any country you want, it has a worker earning a living in Saudi Arabia.
You want to preach and lecture, you must be up to the task, otherwise shut up and mind your own business.
To add insult to injury, our minister chose to champion the plight of a disgruntled teenager, who did not like to live with the Saudi traditions, using her for political reasons, parading her before the media especially letting everyone know that, this refugee claimant has renounced her religion and denounced her family ( I will revisit this under my immigration blog). What benefits for Canada in that?, what government and what minister does that?
What were the consequences of such incompetent actions for Canada?
1 - Loosing credibility
2 - loosing friendly nations, turning them into adversaries
3 - Loosing billions of dollars in investments
4 - Finding out that the so called allies, look after their own first.
Something Canada's foreign affairs minister should know by now, especially that when the minister was parading that Saudi teenager at the airport, the so called allies were signing investment deals with the Saudis worth $53 billion.
You know what, it bothers me so much the level of hypocrisy the Canadian government operates under. While our minister of foreign affairs playing the self righteous card, Canada still imports billions of dollars worth of oil from the Saudis, and sell to them military hardware. Again talk about a government allover the place, why is that? and due to what?
